    1. Received from Netgalley for review, thank you. I hate to say it, but I was a little disappointed in this memoir. It's the fault more of my expectations than of the book, I think; the cover states quite clearly that this is a light-hearted memoir of a WAAF's service "for the duration". It skates cheerfully over the surface of the war, from the time Felicity Ashbee enlisted (while Americans were still saying "there isn't going to be any war") to her demobbing, and well, that's the thing. I was exp [...]

    2. I pursued this lady for 20 years and found her a few weeks too late. She served with a relative, Wilf, who was i/c a Y radar (home chain) station during WW2, and I promised to try to locate her. She had no internet presence then, no , though now my search for her would have been simple. She wrote (or probably dictated) this book, and another about her earlier life in Jerusalem, in 2007-8 just before she died. At another time she served at Bletchley Park, and a Northumberland Y station. She ident [...]

    3. For the Duration: A Lighthearted WAAF Memoir by Felicity Ashbee might be non-fiction, but it sure doesn’t read that way. This is definitely a historical read worth picking up, no matter how far out of your comfort zone it may be.“War?” my American friends had said, “What war?”“Hitler,” I replied.“There isn’t going to be a war,” they repeated complacently. But I knew better. Thus begins a very engaging and entertaining memoir about Felicity Ashbee’s experiences in the Women’ [...]
