    1. 3.85 starsGregory is stuck in a boring 9-5 job, which is slowly killing his soul. He stumbles upon Paul a young busker who brings back memories of what could have been, all those dreams of making it big and everything he let slide. He's still bitter and jealous as Paul is not about to take the easy way out and settle for second best. It was lovely to see Gregory reawakening and believing in his passion for music again, willing to take another chance and all because Paul gave him hope. I only wis [...]

    2. 3.5*This short story starts very melancholy and sad and it doesn't really change for me until the epilogue.Gregory exists, but he doesn't really live. He had a dream once, one he shared with his lover Carl, but they didn't succeed and Gregory went on to work a 9 to 5 job he doesn't like, working for a boss he actually hates! Carl wasn't able to go on at all.Gregory's head was not a happy place .One morning he hears a musician playing the guitar and singing, this opens up the great void in him wh [...]

    3. I enjoyed this story a lot, despite the melancholy feel to it. Gregory has let life beat him down until he is living a humdrum, lonely life. One random act of kindness to a busker on the steps of a museum shows him that he can still fly high. The epilogue was perfect for the tone of the book.

    4. 4.5 marblesThis short piece packs a wallop, mixing as it does broken dreams and dreams yet to be realized. Gregory, who has put aside aspirations of stardom for safety and dullness, encounters a musician playing for tips who stirs up many longings. Gregory is a tax attorney with broken dreams. Paul has come to California to find his own stardom, he’s ready to fly up and touch the sun. Gregory flew at the sun once, with Carl, his lover, who had his own dreams of flight that died in an overdose. [...]

    5. A book of hope at the opposite ends of the spectrum - Gregory, been there, done that, the T shirt is now in the bin, all out of hope and the joy of living has been dampened by a dull job. And Paul, newly in town, busking and hoping to hit the big time, full of hope and vitality.I found the writing very descriptive and evocative, adding to the hopelessness of Gregory but lighting up with Paul's enthusiasm. The title reference becomes clear about 2/3 way through. Can Paul's hopefulness be the bal [...]
