    1. The book is really fast paced. Author explains beautifully, how the objective of the revolution changed from 'Tennis Court declaration' in 1789 to the rise of Jacobins and then up to the fall of Directoire. The actual is history of French Revolution is not something to be exalted, politicians from different quarters, manipulated the the public opinion for private gains, how the pamphleteers twist the public opinion and urge them for insurrection.     2. Excellent explanations, and some I understood better than from other books. Difficult for me to keep remembering the cast of characters, as there were soooo many. After the royal family was hanged, I skimmed the rest of the book. Will try again someday.



    3. I’ve only rated this 3 stars because it’s a survey, but it’s a good survey of the French Revolution that helps a non-specialist prepare to take up the great histories of the Revolution by Burke, Carlyle, Lamartine, Taine, and others.



    4. The best of modernity came from France. Democracy, sense of equality, sense of haves and have nots and so on. This is a short description on that.
