    1. Disclaimer: I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.About the story:Merlin is a man suffering stomach cancer whom lives in a Minuteman-3 Missile Silo, ergo obtaining his awesome nickname "Minuteman Merlin".His day to day life consists of the hustle to make ends meet, a continuous regiment of chemotherapy and radiation, and tending to his dog Chief.Upon opting to take things into his own hands and confronting an abusive father--the owner of a bar that Merl [...]

    2. I'm just going to get right to the point. Minuteman Merlin is not at all what I was expecting, and I am so glad I took a chance and decided to give it a try. Set on Earth, in the not so distant future, Frederick Crook creates a dystopian world that rivals the Old West. However, instead of horses, there are self navigating cars, and the main character's homestead is a missile silo that has been converted into a modern living space.Minuteman Merlin is our hero. And, like any good hero, there's a f [...]

    3. Frederick Crook is a fantastic writer. Within the first few pages I am completely sucked into this world, to the point of almost feeling the rain pouring down on me the same as Minuteman Merlin. The thing about the character of Minuteman Merlin that is so engaging is that he doesn't see himself as a hero. He's sick, he's aging, but he's no hero. Yet when he discovers that a boy named Mickey has been abused, he takes matters into his own hands, and becomes the saving grace the kid always needed. H [...]

    4. This story is so well written, the language and topic so engaging, it pulled me right in. Merlin is not well, and in year 2121, due to severe circumstances, he must be treated with medication that guarantees very little, even in our time. But despite his dire situation -- he lost his wife, is severely ill -- Merlin is someone who cannot stand injustice and abuse, and takes the law into his own hands. This character is written so well, I was left with a sense of camaraderie toward him and a sense [...]

    5. This book grabbed me right from the start and I couldn't put it down. It's a fascinating mashup of a dystopian future with the old, wild west. The hero has his own problems--mourning his wife, a confirmed loner, dying of cancer. He's looked the other way when faced with all the illegal, immoral behavior in town. But he draws the line at a bully abusing a child.
