    2. Review: PAINT THE TOWN DEAD by Sybil JohnsonPAINT THE TOWN DEAD is one of the most relaxing cozies I have read. This second in the Aurora Anderson. Mysteries Is laid back, gentle, and heartwarming. (Guess that should be in the definition of "cozy.") Aurora ("Rory") is a tole-painter and freelance programmer in Vista Beach, California, a formerly quiet community--until the new Akaw Hotel was constructed. Now some residents are angry, picketing--and throwing rocks in windows, including Rory' s. Bu [...]

    3. This was a light, fluffy murder mystery. I haven't read the first book in this series, so it took a while to catch up with the background of the characters.I felt that there were so many "situations" happening that it got a bit muddled. There were some good moments that helped make this story a decent read.**Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley in exchange of an honest review."

    4. I received an ebook copy of Paint the Town Dead from the publisher Henery Press via Netgalley for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this novel.Although I haven’t read Fatal Brushstroke (Aurora Anderson Mystery #1) this didn’t prevent me from enjoying Paint the Town Dead (Aurora Anderson Mystery #2). Often not reading the first in a series leaves you a bit high and dry, feeling a bit lost…but this was not the case here. Rory (Aurora) is an interesting amateu [...]

    6. Rory is back and the dust has settled in Vista Beach after all the turmoil that happened in Fatal Brushstroke, Book 1 of the series. There is a new hotel that has been built in town, the Akaw, and they are hosting a painting convention. There are many vendors, artists, and guests attending, including Rory's mom's store, some of Rory's friends, and a highly regarded artist who just happens to be the aunt of a friend. All is moving along nicely until the protesters start their antics. The protester [...]

    7. It wasn't long ago that Aurora Andersen discovered a body in her garden. 9. Ahh! Aurora's back and this time there's a convention going on in Vista Beach. Of course, Rory's right in the middle of it. It's a painting convention and someone at the convention is killing people and it's not legionnaire's disease.Of course, Rory's on it, her best friend was killed and she is going to get to the bottom of it. Even though Detective D is telling her to leave it alone. HA! Like that's going to happen.Rory get's herself into some pretty unsavory and downright smelly predicaments [...]

    10. I loved this mystery. Started reading it and before I knew it, it was several hours later and I finished it. Just couldn’t put it down once I started reading Rory is a fun and likable heroine who dedicates herself to finding out how her friend died. Using her wits and with the help of her friends she follows the clues to uncover the truth as she is thrown into various puzzling and dangerous situations. An enjoyably pleasant read that has a satisfactory ending but also leaves you looking forwar [...]

    13. I've never thought of anything connected to Los Angeles as small or quiet, but Sybil Johnson manages to bring a wonderful small town spirit to the Los Angeles County city of Vista Beach. And when cities are quiet, the residents tend to like their homes to stay that way. Enter the Akaw Hotel, which changes all that. This disquiet has put some of the hotel's detractors on high alert. Or put a bee in their bonnets. Because some of them think that the new hotel will ruin the town's atmosphere. Then, [...]

    14. Vista Beach is a charming city, but many residents are not at all happy about the newly built Akaw Hotel. While protestors demonstrate outside, tole enthusiasts are flocking to the hotel for the Ocean Painting Society's Inaugural Convention. Amongst the attendees is Rory's friend Jasmine, a young woman suffering from narcolepsy. When she abruptly dies during a class, from an apparent overdose of GBH, police rule the death accidental. 15. I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book via a give-away. From the book synopsis on :“The Ocean Painting Society invites you to join the painting wave”“It’s June in the quiet Los Angeles County city of Vista Beach, the place computer programmer and tole-painting enthusiast Aurora (Rory) Anderson calls home. 17. Rory Anderson is thrilled about the decorative painting convention coming to Vista Beach, California, her hometown. She’s looking forward to the classes and helping her mom, one of the vendors for the event. However, she is shocked when her friend collapses and dies just as the week is getting under way. The police think it was a tragic accident, but Rory is sure it was murder. Can she prove it?I love the beach, so the beach town setting is perfect for me. The characters are good, although I d [...]

    18. I received an e-copy of this from Henery Press via Netgalley.I really wanted to like this book as I love cosy mysteries but it just didn't do it for me. I didn't find the characters very likeable and didn't really care what was happening to them. The story was good and that's why I have given the book 2 stars, however the ending seemed to be a little rushed and a little too easy for the main character to escape from the killer. Some of the characters were unbelievable too; the husband didn't see [...]

    19. Plot twists have you guessing "who done it" to the end.Rory Anderson’s computer programming work for the Akaw Hotel finds her on the wrong side of radical protestors. The hotel is fraught with problems and personnel with secrets. While attending the Ocean Painters Society conference being held there, her friend Jasmine dies of an overdose of her narcolepsy medications. Rory can’t accept the death is a suicide. Dashing D, as Rory & Liz refer to Detective Martin Green of the Vista Beach Po [...]

    22. If you’re a crafter and a mystery lover, you’ll enjoy Paint the Town Dead. 24. Book 2 in Sybil Johnson's new series did not disappoint. A fun, cozy read with a great cast of characters and a whodunit that had me guessing almost up to the very end.I like that there were several events happening at the same time. Made trying to figure out who/what/why that much more fun.I found myself reading up a bit on Narcolepsy because of the underlying condition of one of Rory's friends. I love learning new things.**I really enjoyed this book and thank the publisher and Net Galley for t [...]

    25. Another winnerI really enjoyed this book, and this entire series. The characters are well developed and I felt invested in what happens to them. The plot and mystery were complex enough to keep me interested and keep me guessing . This was a very entertaining, light cozy read. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries or mysteries.

    26. I liked Paint the Town Dead more than the first book in the series, Fatal Brushstroke. The set up here seems more realistic though Rory spends most of her time at the convention helping her mom again and investigating. When does she actually do her own work? I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

    29. Paint the Town Dead is the second book in the Aurora Anderson mystery series. It is a decently written and professionally edited, full length novel.Aurora is attending a tole painting convention when one of her friends collapses and dies. Soon Aurora finds herself investigating two murders after another woman dies of an apparent poisoning. There are many details in this plot and contrasting subplots that I found myself losing track of the story.I also was put off by the characters' interactions. [...]
