    1. Lavinia's sophomore novel puts us back in the front seat of a wanna-be band, scrounging around the head of twenty seven year old Lil, whose constant chasing of band mate Duncan has caused her to miss out on every good thing life ever had to offer her.A painfully raw look at what life would be like if we chose to never 'officially' grow up. Edgy, vicious, and perfectly nostalgic.

    2. There’s a great moment in Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Demons (or The Possessed or The Devils depending on which translation you’ve read) where a group of pseudo-intellectuals and revolutionaries gather to discuss their plans for a violent overthrow. The meeting quickly turns into a great comedic set piece (and one of Dostoevsky’s funniest moments), where rather than reaffirming their commitment to the cause, the members of the secret society proceed to bicker over who are the true revolutionarie [...]

    3. Lavinia Ludlow's unique voice, command of the english language, and borderline symphonic use of insults and colorful phrases is as mellifluous as it is engagingly funny. This is only eclipsed by her demonstrable musical and pop culture knowledge, and post-modern literary references.

    4. If gross-out humor has a tragic cousin, then Lavinia Ludlow is a master of the form. Full review here: smallpressreviews.wordpress.c

    5. At its heart, Single Stroke Seven (love the title, by the way) is a punk rock love story that follows Lilith, a talented drummer in the Musician’s Grid neighborhood of San Jose, and her long-running, ambiguous relationship with Duncan, the self-righteous leader of their band (appropriately named Dissonanz). Lilith is willing to live in disarray, passing up far better band and career opportunities (including one with the San Francisco Symphony) to stay close to Duncan, in fear of losing her sec [...]

    6. Think of it as an idealistic, more contemporary spin off Clerks. Single Stroke Seven is a little all over the place, but so are we: starry-eyed millenials, willing to make a difference in the world, not self-aware for two cents about being a sociological answer to the cynicism of the nineties. Lavinia Ludlow's self-aware though, she understands these issues and portrays them with gracefulness and humor though her protagonist Lilith, who dares to dream of being a rock star at adult age. She is un [...]
