    1. RARE CLASSICThis is a classic that hardly anyone will ever read. It was released in 1938 in a limited edition of 490 copies and is scarce/rare. I own one of the 3 copies from Stegner's private collection. Superb writing and a shame is not more accessible. Story of a deaf black potter and family problems and I mean problems. Sensitive, touching and in the category of great.


    2. Finally got my hands on Wallace Stegner’s second published novella - 64 pages written early in his career in 1938 while he was teaching at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Only 490 copies of this slim book were printed by The Prairie Press in Muscatine, Iowa. They are rare. I was thrilled to find a copy through my library via inter-library loan from the Virginia Military Institute Preston Library.
